Join Beyond Limits for a special day of learning, connection, and inspiration as we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

This event brings together self-advocates, families, support staff, service providers, and community members to explore what it means to build truly inclusive communities. Through presentations led by individuals with lived experience, participants will gain practical tools, new perspectives, and a deeper understanding of the importance of rights, inclusion, and belonging.

At the heart of this event is a simple but powerful message: people with disabilities are experts in their own lives. When self-advocates lead conversations about inclusion, everyone benefits.

People First of Canada

Nothing About Us Without Us: The 8 Principles of Inclusive Participation

Meaningful inclusion is about more than simply inviting people to the table. It is about ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and be heard.

Representatives from People First of Canada will explore the 8 Principles of Inclusive Participation and share practical strategies for creating environments where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities can fully engage in decision-making, leadership, and community life.

Participants will leave with concrete tools for fostering accessibility, supporting self-advocate leadership, and building a culture of inclusion.

We Matter

My Rights, My Life

Presented by members of We Matter, a self-advocacy group supported by New Directions, this engaging peer-to-peer presentation explores the importance of human rights in everyday life.

Through interactive activities, videos, and real-life examples, presenters will discuss what human rights are, why they matter, and how choice and self-determination are fundamental rights for all people.

Participants will also explore the responsibilities that accompany rights and learn how supporters can help ensure those rights are respected.

Inclusive Minds

The Power of Inclusion in Action

What happens when people with disabilities are not only included, but recognized as leaders, valued for their contributions, and given real opportunities to shape their own lives and the world around them?

Inclusive Minds is a group of self-advocates leading the way in human rights, disability justice, and making change happen.

Through their experiences, this presentation explores what becomes possible when people have the space, support, and opportunity to exercise their rights, make decisions, take on leadership roles, and influence change. From personal growth and meaningful relationships to community leadership and advocacy, their stories show that inclusion is about more than access or participation. It’s about recognizing people’s expertise, respecting their choices, and creating opportunities for everyone to contribute, lead, and shape the communities they belong to.
